Outlander is the top most common book on Goodreads with a DNF

There are some things as fans of Outlander that we won’t understand. The biggest is how others don’t love the series as much as the rest of us.

Okay, let me just say that I’m not an Outlander and that’s all type of reader/watcher. I love well-written content of all types of genres. To me, the world within just one fantasy world is boring. But I know many say they will only ever read or watch the series forever.

At the same time, I will always finish a book. It takes a lot for me to DNF (did not finish) a book. There’s only been a handful; when I’ve just fallen asleep while attempting to read multiple times or when I find the book ridiculously offensive for the sake of being offensive.

But it turns out there are a fair few people who haven’t been able to finish the Outlander book, according to Book Riot. It looked at the Goodreads list of books that readers don’t get around to finishing, and our favorite books are at the very top of the list. Fifty Shades of GreyThe Book Thief, and A Song of Ice and Fire are also on the list.

It is worth pointing out that the list only shows that 1,200 people didn’t finish the book. That’s out of the thousands of people who will track their reading through the app.

Breaking down the reasons Outlander is on the list

One thing Book Riot points out is the reason why the books are on the list. It doesn’t mean they’re bad books (we could tell them that, right?) but that these are among the most popular books overall. When there are more reading, there are going to be more people stopping partway through.

In fact, something the article also points out is that some people will read a book that isn’t suited for them. It’s often because the books are turned into movies or TV shows. They gain a popularity that expands the potential of the audience, but also leads to the “wrong” audience picking up the novels.

That makes sense when you look at the full list of 15 books. Most of them are books that have been adapted. People who enjoy the shows or have heard the hype of the series may have decided to pick up the books. Then they realize how thick the books are or what the writing is like and decide that the book series isn’t for them; that the show or movies are enough.
