Master Raymond saves Claire’s life during Outlander Book 2, Chapter 25

We’re into the saddest part of Dragonfly in Amber. Claire recovers after the loss of a child, but wouldn’t be able to without Master Raymond’s help. It’s time to delve into Outlander Book 2, Chapter 25.

This chapter picks up dates after the duel. Claire is at the hospital and we have no idea what’s happened to anyone. In fact, it’s not until the end of the chapter that she really starts to think about her husband.

The focus is on healing physically. That’s not going to be easy. The chapter doesn’t go into the full details, while the show uses the voiceover to tell us exactly what is going on with Claire in this point. She has childbed fever.

While it’s a short chapter, it’s also important. It’s packed with emotion and makes it clear that Master Raymond is more than just an apothecary. There’s something magical about it, which I’m sure we all got the sense of throughout the books.

There is a lot of foreshadowing at the end of this chapter. However, it’s foreshadowing for books of the future and not necessarily for Dragonfly in Amber. While Diana Gabaldon doesn’t have an outline, she certainly knows where certain storylines are going.

As for the adaptation, well, it was definitely used. There’s no way it couldn’t have been.
