What makes Laura Donnelly’s Jenny so awesome on Outlander?

The women of Outlander are strong and fierce. They’re protective of their family members. That’s certainly the case with Jenny, played by Laura Donnelly.

Today is Laura’s birthday, and we like to mark these occasions with character or actor focused posts. Today it’s all about Jenny Fraser Murray, a character that many Sassenachs have come to absolutely adore.

When someone asks me which character I connect to most, I usually say Jenny, especially the show version of the character that we’ve come to know and love. She’s a fierce woman who is also loving and kind. But man can she hold a grudge!

Here’s why Laura Donnelly’s portrayal makes us love Jenny.

She will do everything for family

This is a woman who will do whatever it takes for her own family. That includes hiding her own brother for years in a cave. There’s no way she would have turned her brother in if she didn’t need to.

I know the book storyline was a little different, but this is about Laura Donnelly’s portrayal of the character on the Outlander TV series. So, we’ll focus on the show storyline.

Jenny would never have chosen to turn Jamie into the Redcoats. It was Jamie who made that decision, and Jenny wasn’t happy about it. Yet, she still loved her brother and looked after him afterward when he needed it. She also took the necessary steps to protect everyone else.

Jenny is a protective woman. She wants to make sure those who she loves are looked after, and that means holding a grudge against those who have proven not to.
