Seeing the friendship with Geillis form
I know that Geillis isn’t exactly a friend, but I always saw Claire and Geillis as potential friends. In a way, it’s a shame they couldn’t just both be honest with each other. Geillis knew there was something odd about Claire, and it’s a shame she didn’t realize this was the woman who had traveled through the stones 20 years before she did.
Regardless, I love the moment in the garden and then the moment in Hall. We see the two strike up a friendship. Claire is finally able to feel somewhat relaxed around a person other than Jamie.
She needs someone to help her through this part. Having Geillis there to translate and to explain things is perfect for her and for us.
From joy to desperation
Poor Claire. Just as it looked like she was going to escape the past, another barrier was put in the way at the end of Outlander Season 1, Episode 2. She had to see Colum just before the carriage took her away.
Claire learned that Colum had decided she was staying. He makes it look like she’s staying to help as a healer, but he doesn’t trust her. He needs to make sure she’s not a spy and hasn’t found something important.
It’s understandable from Colum’s point of view. However, Claire has a powerful moment as her joy turns to desperation. What is she going to do now?
