Claire needs to work late at the hospital in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 18

When there’s an explosion in Paris, Claire is needed at the hospital for longer than normal. It leads to some disastrous and traumatic consequences in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 18.

Everyone who has seen Outlander Season 2 will remember this part, even if they haven’t read the book. It’s the moment Mary and Claire are attacked, and the first time Claire hears the name La Dame Blanche. That’s something to come up later in the books (and the show).

It sets up an important storyline for Murtagh. He is ready to die for his mistake, but he ends up on a path of vengeance; one to make up for his failings as a man. We get to see the flaw in his character, which isn’t necessarily a major flaw. It just sadly meant a horrific attack in the Parisian alleyway.

The ending involves an important dinner party, which leads to an interesting mention of a business partner that we know will have to lead to something later in the story. We just have to get over this small hurdle first.

This is the first chapter in Part Three of the novel and is about the average length of a chapter. On Audible it comes in at around 40 minutes.

It’s time to break down Dragonfly in Amber Chapter 18.
