Mary shows her naivety in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 14

In Outlander Book 2, Chapter 14, we continue on with a couple of story threads from previous chapters. Claire continues to work at the hospital while Jamie continues to attempt to decode the letters.

It starts off as quite a light chapter with plenty of humor. We get to see Mary’s sheltered upbringing, which leads her to not quite understand where babies come from. Claire is also in her element at the hospital, as she watches a master at work. I continue to love how much she is eager to learn when it comes to medicine, which certainly brings some foreshadowing in itself.

However, it quickly turns dark. The ending sees Jamie give young Fergus a beating, even though he doesn’t really want to. He realizes what it means to be a parent, but also thinks carefully about what Fergus really feared. That beating was nothing compared to what could have happened.

Dragonfly in Amber Chapter 14 is an average-length chapter. It comes in at 35 minutes on Audible, but I don’t think it too all that long to physically read. I do try to read slowly though to catch any foreshadowing within the chapter and any details I missed the first time.

Let’s get into the breakdown of Outlander Book 2, Chapter 14.
