Outlander Book Club: Book 2, Chapter 11 breakdown
Claire meets Bonnie Prince Charlie in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 11
Up to this point, Claire has only heard about Bonnie Prince Charlie, whether through history books or from Jamie’s description. During Outlander Book 2, Chapter 11, she gets the chance to meet him.
We learn a little about Prince Charles, a man who is determined to gain his father’s throne back from the English. There isn’t much time spent with him, though, with the focus mostly being on a certain monkey bite.
In fact, the chapter includes an important discussion about Claire doing something while she is in Paris. She doesn’t want to be a wife and lady of a house. She wants to do something useful, but Jamie doesn’t want her to take up the job she wants. In a way, it’s possible to see both sides of the argument, but I will always understand Claire’s need to do something more.
There is a small amount of foreshadowing within the chapter. This is where my memory of the books does get hazy. I’ve only read Dragonfly in Amber once, which means I don’t remember everything as clearly as I would like. Some elements of the books also blend together, so it may mean missing some of the foreshadowing (and I’ll comment on that later when I make the connections).
This chapter was used for the TV series, although with some shakeups in the timeline a little. The shakeups certainly make sense for the sake of the show.
Let’s get into the breakdown of the Dragonfly in Amber chapter.
