Outlander Book 2, Chapter 9 certainly brought some surprises

Outlander Book 2, Chapter 9 has a huge surprise for Claire and Jamie at the end. This surprise certainly isn’t a good one. It’s time to delve into the chapter from Dragonfly in Amber.

This is a chapter that saw some substantial changes in the show, but not so much that they completely changed the story. The changes for the sake of the series made sense, combining characters, setting up the in-episode drama, and introducing characters earlier than the books. For the sake of time, these changes were needed, and I’ll get into why I thoroughly enjoyed them but while still enjoying the book!

In the chapter, we get the ball at Versailles and the luncheon the following day. We get to see what life in the French Court is like and get a sense of Louis’s personality through Claire’s eyes. This is also a chance to see her watching other women and how they react to Jamie.

Most of the chapter is about mingling with French society. It’s a chance for Jamie to meet Monsieur Duverney, the Finance Minister, in an attempt to prevent Culloden. However, it’s the ending that has the most drama.

At the luncheon, a certain person returns, and I’m not talking about the Duke of Sandringham (although he is there)!

Let’s get into the breakdown of Dragonfly in Amber Chapter 9.
