Outlander Book Club: Book 2, Chapter 8 breakdown
We meet Master Raymond in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 8
As we get into Outlander Book 2, Chapter 8, more characters important to the French storyline are important. One of those is Master Raymond, but there’s also a mention of Mary Hawkins.
After a chapter where it was mostly Jamie telling Claire the events that had happened, we get back into Claire witnessing situations through her own eyes. One of those is an Englishman, Mr. Hawkins, doing business with Jamie. That’s when we learn about Mary Hawkins, whose name is immediately familiar with Claire, but she can’t quite put her finger on it right away.
It brings up an important discussion about changing history. This is something that I did find the TV series lacking. The book goes into a lot of my thoughts when we kept hearing that Black Jack Randall was dead. How was Claire still wearing the ring from Frank?
Toward the end, we got to meet a very important character to the entire Outlander mythology. Master Raymond was introduced, and his introduction is always extremely fun to read. I just love the personality that comes out of the page through Claire’s eyes.
The chapter is just short of 50 minutes on Audible. That’s about the usual length for a chapter, and it’s also packed with tiny details that certainly offer some foreshadowing.
Let’s get into the breakdown of Dragonfly in Amber Chapter 8, shall we?
