Emmys 2020: Outlander snubbed once more, awards just like high school
Outlander snubbed at the Emmys 2020, proving it just isn’t one of the ‘cool kids’
Doesn’t the Emmy Awards feel a lot like high school? Once again Outlander was snubbed, despite having a number of actors worthy of nominations.
Outlander has never been one of the “cool kids.” In fact, it’s rare that any STARZ show is among the “cool kids,” despite having some of the best content going. Just look at Vida, which was also snubbed after a strong final season.
It’s part of the reason I pay so little attention to the awards. The same shows are nominated over and over again, even if their seasons have had lower quality than previous years. Even when the actors just don’t stand out as much as Outlander. All awards are political, rather than actually focusing on talent.
All of Outlander snubbed
Outlander didn’t even get one nomination for Season 5. While Sam Heughan is routinely overlooked, the show is often nominated for Best Drama and Caitriona Balfe tends to be nominated for Best Actress. Neither of those two happened.
Personally, I thought Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, and Richard Rankin should have all been nominated. I didn’t expect any of them to win considering some of the talent that is in the categories (I’m almost certain Elisabeth Moss will win Best Actress for The Handmaid’s Tale) but getting nominations counts.
The only time Outlander gets a lot of nominations and even wins is when the awards involve fan voting. It goes to show that there is a huge, loyal, and passion fanbase out there. Yet, the big awards bodies don’t see the talent, probably because the series isn’t “cool.”
I’ll admit that I lost interest in the award shows years ago. Once I hit high school, I started to see how political they were. It was all about who was in the “cool club,” just like high school, and I’m just not interested in that game. I don’t care for that game.
It would be nice to see our little show recognized, but at the same time, I don’t need it. Just from the quality of the acting, the costume creation, the music, and the writing, there’s no need for award nominations. The show and the actors are always winners in my eyes.
