4. Easing Brianna’s mind

We didn’t get a lot of time to see Brianna and Marsali’s bond, but an early episode showed us enough to start. Brianna feared that Stephen Bonnet was coming for Jemmy, but it was all in her mind. Marsali realized the fear and why Brianna had been so worried about Jemmy.

There was this stone-faced admission that Marsali had killed her father. Only, it turned out that Marsali had just wished her father’s death. When he did eventually die, she knew that she definitely didn’t do it.

The fourth season certainly offered Marsali a chance to grow as a character. Outlander Season 5 ran with it even more.

3. Calling Claire ‘Ma’

Claire and Marsali didn’t like each other at first. By Season 4, they were close. Yet, Season 5 grew that bond one step more.

Marsali doesn’t have her own mother, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a motherly figure. The bond with Claire grew considerably by Marsali becoming Claire’s apprentice. It was just an excellent moment to see Marsali want Claire there to deliver her baby.

More importantly, this wasn’t Claire there as a doctor and midwife. It was having Claire there as her “Ma.”
