Could we expect Outlander Season 6 casting news before the fall?

Our eyes are currently on when Outlander Season 6 will start filming. Writing is happening, but filming won’t be able to start until around fall 2020.

It’s a long and quiet Droughtlander. One of the ways to get through Droughtlander is to find out about casting. Will we get any Outlander Season 6 casting news before the fall?

I doubt it. While it would be a good way to keep the attention on the show, there isn’t a need to reveal characters just yet. This reveals the storylines that are being included in the story. Plus, the casting department may not even have anyone lined up just yet, especially for the middle to end blocks.

So, when can we expect some casting news? Are there any major characters who need casting for Outlander Season 6?

It will likely be all about the Christies

The first few episodes probably don’t need any major casting announcements. It’s further into A Breath of Snow and Ashes that the bigger storylines happen, including the problems with the Christies.

Out of all the characters that could do with a casting announcement, it’s the Christies that stand out. It would be good to get a face to Malva and Tom especially.

However, STARZ has been extremely quiet with casting news in the past. While we got to learn who would play Jocasta, Ulysses, and a few others in Season 4, the casting announcements were sparse and offered no timing to figure out future casting announcements.

We hardly had any for Season 5. There were many speculating about who would play Buck MacKenzie, but that announcement didn’t happen for obvious reasons. Announcements were made with very few details. And, in fact, we didn’t even get character names for some of them. We just had to wait and see.

Lieutenant Knox became a big character for the first couple of episodes. We had to go hunting for who played him. The later announcements were about the Browns, which made sense for the roles they would play, but it was still just a handful of announcements for a 12-episode season.

By keeping casting quiet, it’s easier to avoid any spoilers. Book fans won’t know which storylines are going to be used and which ones aren’t. The downside is the lack of news can leave the show out of the headlines during long Droughtlanders.

STARZ found a good balance with Season 5 between casting announcements and promotion, so hopefully, there will be a good balance with Season 6. We need it!

Either way, it’s going to be some time before we get any sort of casting news.
