Outlander Season 2 throwback: The longest Droughtlander so far
Looking back at the start of the longest Droughtlander so far for Outlander fans
For those who tuned into STARZ on this day in 2016 for a new episode of Outlander Season 2, there was a lot of disappointment. The previous week had been the finale. That meant we entered Droughtlander.
To top it off, we started the longest Droughtlander we’ve had so far. There had been breaks up to this point, but they were relatively short. At the midway point of Season 1, we waited seven months. Then we waited less than a year for Season 2.
The wait for Outlander Season 3 would be 14 months. We had no idea how long we were going to have to wait, and there was little news as we waited. Sure, we got to find out who would play Roger and Brianna, but the news was very little to help us deal with Droughtlander.
We didn’t wait too long for Seasons 4 or 5, with a little more than 12 months being the longest.
However, there’s a strong chance this upcoming Droughtlander will be the longest. That isn’t a fault with the show but due to the health pandemic that has put a halt on filming. Otherwise, the Droughtlander would have likely remained shorter.
Did the Droughtlander affect Outlander Season 3?
One of the biggest concerns about waiting so long for Outlander Season 3 was the drop in ratings. Was it possible that this long wait would lead to viewers not tuning in for the third season?
There were some things that STARZ did to help closer to the third season premiering. In some parts of the world, the show finally made it to Netflix. That was certainly the case in Canada, which is how I started watching. I binge-watched the first two seasons during August 2017, ready for the third season.
The third season has ended up being the most-watched season live, according to the Nielsen ratings through TV Series Finale. There will have been many more tuning in via the STARZ App, which is where the viewing figures really count for the show.
That should mean this upcoming Droughtlander shouldn’t be a problem in terms of viewer numbers. The downside is we have to wait for something we love.
