Our favorite couple shares an intimate moment in an Outlander deleted scene

Here’s our first look at a deleted scene from Outlander Season 5!

E! News shared the almost three-minute clip, which takes place during the time Claire was trying to create penicillin in the 18th century.

It starts with Claire walking in on Jamie looking at all the food she has laid out in the hopes of finding the right mold. Then Jamie takes her in his arms and of course, our very clever Scotsman traces the word penicillin back to its roots, which means little tail brush. And what is it that Claire is looking for? Mold that looks like paintbrush strokes. We’re definitely impressed and based on Claire’s face, so is she.

There’s also a callback to the time Claire used penicillin to save Jamie’s life in Season 3 after Laoghaire shoots him. The quick-witted Scot asks his Sassenach, “that was mold you put in my arse?” Oh Jamie, you and your wonderful humor.

Jamie asks Claire why the sudden need to create the medicine and she tells him it’s because Leith Farrish died and it could have been avoided if she had it. The scene ends with Jamie telling her to “grow all the mold you want, Sassenach.” Sigh, how can this man make everything sound so charming?

Connection to the Outlander Season 5 credits

Also for those watching closely, you might have noticed one of the shots from the scene were in the title cards for this season. If I’m not mistaken, the shot of the magnifying glass for the microscope is the only one in the title cards that we didn’t see in any of the episodes. (It’s at 1:09 in the deleted scene and :50 in the opening credits). Well, now we know which scene it’s from!

I know one of the biggest struggles for the showrunners is time, but I really wish this wonderfully intimate moment wasn’t cut. The writers did a great job of giving us more Jamie and Claire scenes in Season 5, but I’m greedy and wanted just a few more. And this scene is a perfect example of everything I’m looking for in a quiet moment between our beloved couple.

It’s another example that showcases how they’re both from different times and though Jamie doesn’t fully understand, he still supports Claire no matter what.

Claire shares another fact about Brianna, explains her motivations behind creating penicillin which kick starts one of her important storylines this season, Jamie’s humor and the general playfulness between them, and of course the beautiful intimacy between these two! It’s filled with snuggles and sweet touches that were just too cute to cut. This scene checks all the boxes.

Oh well, at least we get to obsessively rewatch it on our screens.

Earlier on we predicted the DVD and Blu-ray would be released around Sept. 10.

Well, we were close. The Outlander Season 5 DVD and Blu-ray will officially be out on September 15. I can’t wait to see what other deleted and extended scenes we’ll be treated to!
