Claire was forced to take drastic measures to save Jamie’s life in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 39. It’s time to break down this chapter as part of the Outlander Book Club.

Something that I want to do is thank those who have commented about the way our book club should continue with Dragonfly in Amber. I really enjoy these three sections, so I’m glad to see that everyone else is too. Something I have noticed is that it’s a struggle for all to keep up with one chapter a day. I’m looking into ways that I can make that easier and it looks like taking weekends off from the posts (we can all read ahead if we like) could work best.

But let’s focus on Outlander Book 1, Chapter 39. We’re still at the abbey in France at this point. The main focus is on saving Jamie’s life, but there is some foreshadowing within this.

The show also adapted this chapter slightly. Throughout this part of the show, Jamie had closed off from everyone and made it clear that he didn’t really want to live. This chapter was used but adapted to suit the direction the show had decided to go in. I’ll get into more details about that in the third section.
