Things get heavy during Outlander Book 1, Chapter 38 and beyond

Claire, Jamie, and Murtagh may be safe from the English, but the fight isn’t over in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 38. It’s time for our breakdown of the chapter.

This isn’t as heavy as the later chapters, but there are some heavy moments. For the most part, it’s a spiritual elements to this chapter. It’s about Claire finding some sort of faith, which I do think has some foreshadowing in the future.

There is other foreshadowing in the chapter. It sets up the things to come in the last three chapters of the novel and sets up the relationship that Claire and Jamie will have in the future.

What about when it comes to the TV series? This was a chapter used on the show, but in a different way. Like the rest of the end of this book, the story was told slightly differently. We got to see more of what happened to Jamie at Wentworth Prison instead of just hearing the story told. I’ll get into that in the show section of the breakdown.

While Outlander Book 1, Chapter 38 has some heavier moments at the start, it is the easiest chapter of the last four. There’s a calm before the storm to come. It’s also a relatively short chapter to get through compared to some of the previous ones and two upcoming chapters, coming in at less than 40 minutes.

Here’s our breakdown of Outlander Book 1, Chapter 38.
