Claire and Murtagh get Jamie free from danger in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 37

It’s time to start the journey to France in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 37. Before that can happen, Claire and Murtagh need to get Jamie away from those searching for him.

This is a relatively short chapter, but it’s an important one. We get to see what Claire and Murtagh have to do to save Jamie, and it’s not an easy journey to the coast. Naturally, there are Redcoats looking for Jamie.

While it is important for the book, it’s not a chapter overly used in the TV series. We don’t get to see the escape to the coast, and that’s likely mostly due to time. I’ll get to that in the breakdown.

This isn’t a chapter where I see a lot of foreshadowing. It’s mostly in the moment, but there are elements that stand out and become important later on. There’s also important growth for Claire’s character during the chapter.

On Audible, the chapter takes about 20 minutes to read through. It’s also an easier chapter than others that are coming up while starting the end of this book. There are just four chapters left of the story after this.

Here’s our breakdown of Outlander Book 1, Chapter 37. Are you ready?
