Claire has to find a way to save Jamie in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 36

After a traumatic chapter, we get one without too many graphic details in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 36. It’s time for Claire to save Jamie, which also means healing his wounds.

This is a chapter on the longer side (sitting at more than an hour on Audible), but one that is essential to the story. After all, it’s the one that sees Claire find a way to get Jamie out of Wentworth Prison. Well, it’s not really Claire who figures it out. She relies on the men around her to find a way once she finds a way to convince them to take part in a plan.

It’s one that was used in the TV show but saw some substantial adaptation to remove some of the characters and the places. This would have most likely been for time and also possibly for budget reasons.

There’s no way that certain elements of the chapter could have been avoided. This chapter isn’t just about saving Jamie from the prison. It’s the start of saving him from the trauma. Claire has to heal his wounds, starting with the physical ones but leading to the mental ones.

But what about foreshadowing? There is a very small amount involved, I think.

Here’s our breakdown of Outlander Book 1, Chapter 36.
