8. Episode 8: Giving Roger the paper airplane

Brianna comments during Outlander Season 5, Episode 8 that she never did finish her degree. It’s also around this time that she’s starting to struggle with not having a place in the 18th century except being a mother and a wife. She can’t use the skills that she does have.

But she manages to make use of her skills through the creation of a paper airplane. It’s a peace offering to Roger, a way to remind him that she’s thinking of him.

I guess this is also special because it’s the item Roger carries with him when on the road with Ian. It helps him climb out of the darkness.

7. Episode 12: Offering Claire her hand and her ear

Brianna has a sense of how Claire feels during the Outlander Season 5 finale. There’s no way that Brianna could understand it all, but she understands enough to offer some empathy. And it is empathy rather than sympathy, because she can feel how her mother feels.

We get a call back to the fourth season with this moment. Bree remembers what Lizzie said to her, and it makes it clear that Lizzie’s words at the time did mean something to Bree, even if she couldn’t tell Lizzie the truth. She hopes it offers the same to Claire in her time of need.
