Claire and Murtagh start their search in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 34

We’re heading on the search for Jamie with Claire and Murtagh in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 34. Sadly, they get news that they hate.

This is the start and end of Part Six of the first Outlander book. It made sense why only two chapters made up one of the parts. The two chapters were the longest of them all and could have possibly been broken down into slightly shorter chapters. I’m curious why Part Six was made up of just one chapter.

It was an important chapter. Not only did Murtagh and Claire gain time to learn more about each other, it was also a chance to get a few answers from previous storylines. We learned what happened to Geillis and her baby and we got a few answers about Hamish’s paternity.

At the same time, we got ready for the most difficult part of the whole book. In fact, I think it’s the most difficult part of the first three books. It’ll take us a few days to get to all that, though.

For now, we’re focused on this chapter, which takes about 45 minutes on Audible. It was used heavily for the show but adapted considerably. I’ll get more into that in the TV show adaptation section of the breakdown.

Let’s delve into Outlander Book 1, Chapter 34.
