Adapting the Outlander chapter for the show

This is certainly a chapter that was used in the show but it was done very differently. In the series, we saw The Watch turn up at Lallybroch. Jenny protected Jamie by saying he was their cousin, but it was clear that The Watch didn’t believe them all that much. Their leader Taran McQuarrie (not a character in the books) was a smart man.

However, the bounty on Jamie’s head probably wasn’t enough for them to waste their time. They had another situation to deal with and Jamie was the perfect help. Maybe this was going to end up being a trap, but instead, they were happened upon by dragoons.

Claire and Jenny ended up questioning a dragoon instead of a member of The Watch. The rest of the storyline played out much the same.

Jamie had escaped, Murtagh turned up, and it started the search. We got to see Jenny and Claire bond even more, along with Claire learning a little more about breastfeeding. Claire still gave some of the advice for the future, which Jenny gladly accepted and worked with in the future. This certainly showed the trust that Jenny had for Jamie and Claire.

The important elements of the chapter were kept for the TV show. What we needed was for Jamie to end up on the run, where he’d end up picked up by dragoons and taken to Wentworth Prison. The reasons for it all to happen weren’t all that important.
