It’s Quarter Day at Lallybroch in Outlander Book 1, Chapter 31

It’s time for Quarter Day at Lallybroch. Not only is it an important day overall, but there’s an important element to the story for a future chapter. Let’s break down Outlander Book 1, Chapter 31.

This remains a relatively short chapter compared to some of the previous ones (and the ones to come). However, it is also one of the longest of this part of the book. It comes in at around 40 minute son Audible, which seems to have become more of the average length of a chapter.

Of course, it’s still packed with details. Not only do we get to learn a little more about life at Lallybroch, but there are some moments that stand out for all sorts of other reasons. They foreshadow or set up things to come in the future.

And it was only natural that this chapter would be used in the TV show. It had to be since we needed to see how Claire fit in with everyone at Lallybroch. She may have been English, but not many were going to hold that against her. They could see that Jamie was happy and that she had been welcomed in by Jenny and Ian by this point. Plus, many of them were happy to have their laird back.

However, it’s worth pointing out that there were some substantial changes to the Quarter Day part of the TV series. This helped to fit in a previous storyline from the books, add a little extra drama, and also give us a chance to get to know the Watch a little more.

Here’s a rundown of Outlander Book 1, Chapter 31.
