Outlander Book Club: Book 1, Chapter 30 breakdown
Connecting to the Outlander TV series
Some of this chapter was used a little on the TV series. However, it’s not in the same way.
At one point, Claire does ask Jenny what pregnancy is like. She’s hardly known women who are pregnant. She hasn’t seen it up close all that much. It’s always been in her work, which does take the intimacy away from it.
And so, we just have Claire and Jenny discussing what pregnancy is like. This is important in the show as it is in the books, even though it takes place at a different time. We get to see that bond between Claire and Jenny develop, a chance to see the type of sisters they could be.
I think it’s because of these scenes that I’ve always been so disappointed that we didn’t get more time. I would have loved Claire and Jamie to have been able to return to Lallybroch and live a live with Jenny and Ian. While Jenny in the third book/season was cold towards Claire, it was to protect Jamie and her own heart. They could have worked through that.
But it was never meant to be. However, I do cherish these moments in the books and on the TV show all the more because of that.
