Foreshadowing within the Outlander chapter

I really don’t see all that much foreshadowing within this chapter. The focus is on Jenny’s description of being pregnant. All that it really tells us is that Claire is likely to eventually experience it for herself. Or that Jenny is likely to go into labor soon.

Even the start of the chapter that focuses on the receipt-writing doesn’t foreshadow too much. I think it’s mostly focused on how comfortable Claire feels in the past; how suited she is as the wife of Jamie. Maybe there’s a bit of foreshadowing that she won’t feel that way when with Frank.

Up to this point, we don’t know if Claire will ever end up back in her own time. She’s made a choice to remain with Jamie; to leave everything she knew behind. She’s given up modern technology for a much simpler life.

Yet, we know that she does end up back in her own time. She has to live the life of a 1950s housewife before finding what she wants to do in life—become a doctor. And maybe, there’s an element of foreshadowing that she just isn’t as comfortable with Frank as she is with Jamie. She isn’t content in staying at home in the future when there’s a career but is content in the day-to-day life of Lallybroch (because she’s actually doing something?).
