Breaking down Outlander Book 1, Chapter 24, the longest chapter
Outlander Book 1, Chapter 24’s breakdown is here. This is the longest chapter in the book, taking up about three hours on Audible. To try to make this easy to read, I’m going to pick out some of the more important storylines when discussing the chapter.
There is some foreshadowing within the chapter. There are also some important side stories and mentions of the past. We also get a chance to see Claire and Geillis continue their friendship, something I realized I missed quite a bit when Claire was on the road with the men. I miss it now, especially since Geillis has turned out to be more of a villain than a friend.
The chapter gives us a few hints about Geillis along the way, as well as Claire overhearing a conversation and getting some of the facts wrong. It reminds us that not knowing the full conversation and making assumptions can lead to problems or misunderstandings in the future.
Toward the end of the chapter, we meet the Duke of Sandringham. It’s easy to get a picture of the man in your head from the stories of others, but Claire realizes that the man is different to how she imagined. She also learns that there’s a secret about the man that many seem to just accept is the norm—likely because of his position of authority.
Some of this chapter was certainly used for the series. However, some of it was either condensed heavily or cut out completely. Let’s break down Outlander Book 1, Chapter 24.
