Looking back at the live ratings for Outlander Season 2, Episode 11

On this day in history, Outlander Season 2, Episode 11 aired for the first time. It was an important episode to round out a storyline for Murtagh and bring an end to a particularly annoying (but well played) character.

As with previous anniversary posts this year, we’re looking back at the live ratings. They’re mixed for an episode that saw Murtagh gain vengeance and make up for his inability to protect Claire and Mary. It just so happened both women were there to allow Murtagh to offer up the head of their enemy. What a thoughtful gift!

According to TV Series Finale, the demo was down by 13% from the previous episode. The demo is made up of the 18 to 49 age range, which is used by advertisers to determine if an ad spot is worth paying for. Considering STARZ doesn’t offer ad spots, it’s not that important.

The important figure was the total audience, which was up 5% from the previous episode. The most important figures we don’t get access to—they’re the number of subscribers watching the series.

Saying goodbye to many characters

This episode followed on from the previous episode where we said goodbye to Angus. In this episode, we said goodbye to Lord Sandringham, wrapping up a storyline from Paris while also continuing a wrap up of two years of storytelling. The Battle of Culloden was just two episodes away, and we knew it would mean saying goodbye to the majority of the characters we’d come to know and love.

In a way, Season 3 was a reset. But that meant giving each character we’d come to know, love, and sometimes hate a chance to say their goodbyes. Or in some cases, just a chance for us to see a worthy wrap-up. In the case of Sandringham, it was a chance to see Murtagh take his revenge so he could move forward after not being able to protect the women during the attack in Paris.

It was clear the next episode would have other goodbyes. The question for us at the time was which goodbyes they would be.
