Outlander Season 2, Episode 10 ratings throwback: A dip for the big fight
A look back at the ratings for Outlander Season 2, Episode 10
Outlander Season 2, Episode 10 brought us the big Jacobite victory of the season. At the same time, we got one of the most heartbreaking moments. It’s time to look back over the live ratings for the episode.
Sadly, this was an episode that saw a dip in the live ratings. I do think that is partially because fans will have wanted to take a minute before watching. With the title “Prestonpans,” it was clear what would happen in this episode. Sure, there’d be the Jacobite success, but it would also mean saying goodbye to a character.
Even those who hadn’t read the books would know this episode had to end with the death of a character. That means preparing ourselves to say goodbye—and what a way we have to say goodbye to a beloved member of the Dynamic Duo on the show.
Looking back at the dip in the live ratings
According to TV Series Finale, “Prestonpans” saw an 11% dip in the demo, taking it to the lowest demo of the season. In fact, this was the lowest demo of the series up to this episode and would be the lowest for some time.
That being said, the total audience was up by 5% from the previous episode. While the 18-49-year-olds chose to hold off, everyone else made sure they were watching live.
Of course, it didn’t matter by this point. And really, these live ratings didn’t matter for STARZ. The show had already been renewed for two seasons just 11 days earlier. Also, STARZ considered the viewers from the subscribers more important than the Nielsen live viewers (and still does).
Overall, I think the dip in the demo was due to a couple of reasons. It was going to be a hard episode to watch, but many people had started turning to the STARZ App by this point, which was always going to be far more important. After all, there was nothing to hate about the episode, except having to saying goodbye to a beloved character.
