Claire experiences the Gathering during Outlander Book 1, Chapter 10

Outlander Book 1, Chapter 10 is the last chapter in Part Two of the story. We get to see a change in Claire, as she tries to escape but realizes that she’s putting a life at risk.

This chapter was all about the Gathering. While it was something she didn’t quite know about, she did realize that there was a chance of escape. Everyone would be inside, right? Well, that turned out not to be the case.

We also got to see Claire become a battlefield nurse again in a sense. When the games the following day go wrong, she has no choice but to soften a man’s death instead of saving him. Even if that accident had taken place in a world with antibiotics, death was the most likely end. It’s a stark reminder that even now, we can’t be saved from everything.

We’ll get into the chapter in more detail. There isn’t too much in the way of foreshadowing that I noticed, but this is an important chapter overall. It was also one that was almost all covered in the show with a few changes for the sake of the audience watching.

Like previous chapters, this chapter is a little over 40 minutes in length, according to my copy on Audible.

Here’s a look at how Outlander Book 1, Chapter 10.
