Breaking down the #1 Jamie moment from Outlander Season 5

I recently shared my Top 15 Jamie moments from Outlander Season 5. One of the downsides of these types of posts is that I don’t really get to share every single thought that goes into breaking down the list. That’s especially the case when it comes to picking the #1 moment.

My #1 moment is when Jamie tells his men to “kill them all” during the Outlander Season 5 finale. You can check out the initial reasons I picked this, but I want to delve deeper into the reasoning. After all, it’s more than just holding up his oath for killing Claire.

There’s a lot that goes into the buildup to this moment. Jamie is a kind man. He’s thoughtful and he wants to preserve life. But there’s no escaping this part of him, especially when it comes to Claire.

Claire is the woman he goes to war for

The buildup to this was the lighting of the cross. He promised never to light that unless he wanted to call the men to war. He never lit it when it came to Alamance. That wasn’t a war that he believed in. It was a war of duty and to protect his family from losing land.

However, he will always go to war for Claire. When she was taken, he feared the worst. And he wasn’t about to let the worst happen. So, he called the men that he trusted to stand by his side and take the fight to those who had taken his wife.

After all, this was more than just taking someone he loved. His soul mate was taken. To him, the actions of the men who took her was a declaration of war. He was just following through with that.

The Highlander in him came out during the Outlander Season 5 finale

He may be living in North Carolina, but Jamie is still a Highlander at heart. It’s easy to overlook that when he’s wearing the clothing from the Colonies. We can sometimes forget that he’s not changed what is in his heart.

This moment reminded us that he is still a Highlander. Any Highlander would protect his wife after she’d been violated and raped. It wasn’t a matter of shame, but a matter of righting a wrong. He didn’t just need to get revenge but make it clear that he wouldn’t stand for something like this. Not doing anything would have made him look weak.

However, he didn’t want to kill the wrong people. He wanted to make sure the right people paid for their actions. Claire just couldn’t tell him who it was who violated her.

In the books, it is just one man that’s mentioned. On the show, we see it’s multiple men. However, Claire can’t tell him who in either. Instead of risking the wrong man going free, Jamie makes it clear that they’re all as guilty as each other and none of them deserve to live.

Plus, he is doing this for Claire. Since she can’t take a life, he will do it all for her. That’s a promise that he will never break.

This whole moment reminds us of all the promises Jamie has made to Claire. It reminds us of who he is deep down and the love that he has for Claire. Never forget it, because he won’t.
