Looking back at and breaking down Outlander Book 1, Chapter 2

It’s Day 2 of our Outlander Book Club, and today we’re focusing on the second chapter of Book 1. This is a chapter that introduces us to the stones and we see Claire step through time without realizing it.

This chapter also introduces us to Mrs. Graham, who we meet almost at the start of the series. She’s an important role in the series but doesn’t seem as important in the books. I’ll get to that in a moment.

Like with the first chapter, I’m still splitting this up into three sections. This chapter has a lot that was used for the TV series although slightly differently, which is something we’ll look at in the third section of our breakdown.

There are also some moments that feel a little like foreshadowing or they stand out more simply because I know what’s coming. However, when you read the first time, the sections possibly don’t mean much and are just descriptions.

On Audible, this chapter takes 1 hour and three minutes to get through, according to my app. It took me a little longer to work through as I stop to take notes for this. However, the length of the chapters and the time it takes to get through them is the main reason I’ve chosen to do one chapter a day.

Here’s a breakdown of Outlander Book 1, Chapter 2.
