Outlander Book 9 Daily Lines: British sailors in the house?
Why are there British sailors in the house in Outlander’s Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone?
Every holiday weekend, Diana Gabaldon tries to offer some Daily Lines posts. In some cases, they’re segments from past books, especially now that she’s close to the end of Outlander Book 9, titled Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
The latest Daily Lines post is one from the ninth book. Two British sailors are in the kitchen. More specifically, Jamie notes that they’re English sailors, and he doesn’t seem too impressed with them being there.
Well, it turns out Claire is happy to have them. They’re helpful around the house. The thing Jamie worries about is young Fanny being a little too smitten with the men.
For those who aren’t quite caught up but like spoilers, Fanny is a young girl that the Frasers have taken in. She’s Claire’s apprentice in the later books and is a wonderful character to get to know. Fanny has been included in a number of Daily Lines segments in the recent past, suggesting her role in the family is growing.
There’s a lot for her to learn, but she’s taking everything on board. She’s like an adopted daughter for Claire and Jamie, which means Jamie will want to make a match for Fanny as she gets old enough. He wants to make sure the match is as good as it can be—and that means no English sailors.
The Outlander Book 9 segment
The snippet is one of those moments that reveals no major spoilers, but gives us a look at the daily life of Claire and Jamie. There is a hint at the end of something bigger. Of course, Gabaldon won’t let us read any of that just yet.

Something that Diana Gabaldon says in her hashtags is that her shoulder is healing well. For those who missed it, the Outlander author broken her shoulder earlier in the month, which has pushed back some of her writing. We’re wishing her a speedy full recovery.
