15 best Jamie moments from Outlander Season 5
4. Episode 12: Taking Lionel’s body back to Brownsville
There are many questions about why Jamie would do this. There are questions about why Lionel was taken back to the Big House in the first place. But I’m going to gloss over the questions. This was a major moment for Jamie.
By taking Lionel’s body back, he offered a sign of respect. In a way, it was like he was trying to bring a truce after everything that happened. Jamie knew that Richard hadn’t ordered the attack, so he brought back the body of the man who did—Richard’s brother.
Jamie did everything that he needed to do. Now Richard will, too.
3. Episode 7: Dealing with grief
Oh, how our hearts broke during the Battle of Alamance. Jamie was about to be killed by a Regulator and Murtagh saved him. Then Murtagh was killed by one of Jamie’s men. It’s hard not to feel sorry for the militiaman who thought Jamie would be proud of him.
We knew that we had to say goodbye to Murtagh at some point. This was that moment, and it was heartbreak. It all linked back to the Outlander Season 5 premiere, when Jamie told Murtagh that he no longer had to keep the oath made so many years ago. As Jamie grieved, he told Murtagh that he took back everything he said. Murtagh had to keep the oath.
What I love is that Jamie didn’t blame Claire for not saving Murtagh. Instead, it gave Jamie the conviction he needed to tell Tryon that he was done being a puppet.
