14. Episode 7: The prayer to Dougal

I’d wondered whether this would be included from the books. The placement of it was moved, and it made a lot of sense for the sake of the show. While the placement moved in Outlander Season 5, the meaning of it didn’t change.

Jamie needed to ask for guidance. It was all to do with war and going up against people he knew and loved. Who better to seek guidance from than his Uncle Dougal? Out of all the people, Dougal would have had some sound words of advice.

Plus, we get that sense of Dougal and Jamie respecting each other. Dougal didn’t like Jamie because of Jamie’s ability to be a real laird—of having the calmness to help young Hamish. However, Dougal knew how to lead men in war.

13. Episode 6: Sacrificing Knox

You could tell that Jamie didn’t want to do it. He didn’t want to kill Hamilton Knox, but there was no other way around the situation. This was a hint of the things Jamie would do to protect his family.

Knox had learned that Jamie was a prisoner for Ardsmuir. And I loved that Jamie didn’t hide that fact once it was clear that Knox would find out. Jamie had kept it hidden for as long as he could. We saw the honor but also the loyalty to family—a loyalty that will never be broken.
