Outlander Season 6 theories: Could Marsali blame herself for Henri-Christian?
Marsali took a life and now fears that she’s going to hell. Could she also blame herself for Henri-Christian on Outlander Season 6?
Caution: Out of fairness for those who haven’t read ahead, we are getting into spoilers from “A Breath of Snow and Ashes” linked to Marsali’s current pregnancy. If you want to know nothing about Henri-Christian, her fourth child, and Outlander Season 6 this isn’t the post for you.
Marsali is currently pregnant with her fourth child. In the Outlander Season 5 finale, she took a life, which led to worrying about whether she is going to hell. It could also lead to a storyline on Outlander Season 6, including her blaming herself for Henri-Christian.
Fergus and Marsali’s fourth child is a dwarf. This is not likely a storyline the show will avoid. It’s an important storyline for the family and something that shouldn’t be shied away from on the screen.
In the past, a child born with disabilities was seen as a punishment from God onto the parents. Considering Marsali’s actions in the Outlander Season 5 finale, she could fear that she is the one being punished by God. She took a life. Sure, she didn’t take an oath to “do no harm,” but she still committed murder—breaking one of the 10 commandments.
She asked Jamie if she is going to hell for her actions. Of course he said no, but it’s a natural feeling. And it’s natural for her to blame herself for her son being born a dwarf. This is a time when she wouldn’t understand that it’s all about chromosomes.
Even with Claire explaining it, Marsali could still feel like she’s to blame—that her actions led to this “punishment.” As mothers, we tend to blame ourselves for things that aren’t even our fault. We need someone to blame, and it’s easier to put ourselves on the line instead of just accepting science is the reason.
Personally, I think this would be an understandable and realistic route for Outlander Season 6 to go down. It could also lead to Marsali choosing to no longer be Claire’s apprentice, which would open up the Malva storyline. As much as I don’t like that storyline, it does have an important impact on the overall storyline of “A Breath of Snow and Ashes.”
