The Outlander Season 5 finale was mostly about Claire, but there were some standout Roger moments throughout. Here are my three favorite moments.

Outlander delivered a powerful, emotional, and heavy finale. While it was certainly mostly about Claire, there were some standout moments for other characters. It’s time to break down Roger’s top moments.

He didn’t get as much screentime as others, understandably. This wasn’t an episode for him; we’ve already had many that have focused on his development. However, there were moments that were important for the future. Here are my three favorite Roger moments from the Outlander Season 5 finale.

3. Accepting home is in the past

We’ve spent the full season with Roger focused on going back to his own time. Sure, some fans have been annoyed, but his focus on “going home” was something that resonated with me. However, in the end, he, Brianna, and Jemmy couldn’t travel to the future. Well, no more than just a few minutes into the future.

Roger realizes that he and Bree were thinking of “home.” Home is no longer in their own time. Home is where the Frasers are. It looks like Roger is going to accept that and make the most of the past.

2. Standing by Jamie

When Roger and Bree get back to the Ridge, they immediately learn what happened to Claire. Jamie has called the men to war, and Roger makes it clear that he’s not just sticking around on the Ridge. He will go with Jamie.

We get this important moment between the two. Jamie makes it clear that he meant the request for Roger to fight by his side. Roger meant what he said when he took the oath. And like Jamie, Roger will do what it takes for Claire.

1. Telling Bree he killed a man

In the fight, we watched Roger kill a man. There was a look of shock, but Roger had to keep focused on the battle. It’s only after that he’s able to really think about his actions.

As a man of peace, he is torn about taking a life. Instead of holding it all in, he talks to Brianna about it. He has to do it in darkness, but it’s a huge step for him to share his feelings and look to someone for some sort of forgiveness for his actions. I adore how far their relationship has come.
