Outlander Season 5, Episode 11 gave us Jamie Fraser eating a sandwich with a knife and fork. There was only one person who could come up with that!
There have been many laugh-out-loud moments throughout Outlander Season 5. One of those came in Episode 11 when Jamie ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a knife and fork. There was only one person who could have come up with that idea!
Fans quickly took to Twitter to comment about it. Naturally, these small details are things fans notice because they just scream the character. Of course, Jamie was going to be the one to eat a sandwich with a knife and fork while everyone else around him ate with their hands. It’s just a Jamie thing to do!
There are lots of reasons for him to eat with cutlery, too. I won’t even get into those reasons. What fans have wanted to know is who came up with that idea.
Diana Gabaldon says that she didn’t add it into the script. So, was it a directorial choice?
Oh no! Honestly, there is only one person who could come up with that idea. It was definitely Sam Heughan.
That was my gut feeling even before he tweeted:
Out of everyone, Sam would know his character well. Sure, Diana Gabaldon has written the characters, but the show versions just aren’t the book characters. We’ve known this for a while. It’s something I’ve come to respect and love—I connect to Show Roger more than I do to Book Roger, for example.
Sam has embodied Jamie. He’s brought this character to life. He knows how Jamie would react in certain situations, and when it comes to eating, he knows that Jamie would use cutlery.
