Will Ulysses remain with Lord John Grey on Outlander?

Outlander Season 5, Episode 11 told us that Ulysses is finding freedom thanks to Lord John Grey. Will he remain with LJG in England?

We’re getting to that point in the season where some storylines need to be wrapped. We’re saying goodbye to characters, but that doesn’t mean it’s a permanent goodbye. That could be the case with Ulysses, who has found a way to gain his freedom and safety during Outlander Season 5, Episode 11.

After killing Forbes, Ulysses had to go on the run. It didn’t matter that killing Forbes was to protect Jocasta. As a black man, he would never have gotten away with it during the time.

Nor did it matter that Ulysses already had his manumission papers. He is a free man in North Carolina, but there’s no chance that it would gain him freedom in the territory. It’s why Claire knew that he needed to get out of North Carolina.

So, what better option than to go with Lord John Grey? Yes, it’s to a new country, but it’s to a place where he will be free. His papers will prove that he is a free man and his actions in North Carolina won’t have reached the British shores. Plus, he has Lord John Grey to protect him as long as needed.

Will Ulysses remain with Lord John Grey after this? There are a lot of reasons for it. One of those will be to thank the man for saving his life. Lord John Grey didn’t have to agree to take Ulysses with him, but he did it partially as a favor to Jamie and because he knew it would be the right thing to do.

At the same time, Ulysses is going to a country that he doesn’t know. Even in the 18th century, there would be a culture shock. It would be easier for Ulysses to acclimatize around one person he’s come to know. And the journey on the ship across the seas would be a perfect amount of time to get to know Lord John Grey.

We know Ulysses is loyal to the people he cares about. He was loyal to Jocasta for years after his manumission papers were signed. There’s a strong chance that we could see Ulysses again. If not with Lord John Grey, maybe with Willie or even with someone close to Lord John Grey.
