Roger and Brianna had to decide whether to stay in the past or go back to their own time. Here are Roger’s best moments from Outlander Season 5, Episode 11.

Outlander Season 5, Episode 11 was a big one for Brianna and Roger. After learning Jemmy could hear the stones, it was time to decide whether to stay and go.

Considering how the storylines have been pulled from both Books 5 and 6, it shouldn’t be surprising to find out that a Book 6 storyline was used for Bree and Roger in this episode. With that came some great moments for the characters. Here are the three best Roger moments during “Journeycake.”

3. The humane death

When the family comes across a house that has burned down, they think that everyone was dead before the fire started. However, Roger finds a young girl who is badly burned and is close to death. There’s nothing anyone can do for her.

Jamie offers to give her a humane death, but Roger wants to be the one. He is merciful and kind, even though it’s one of the hardest things he’ll need to do. I wish he had said a prayer at the same time, but I’m glad that if it couldn’t be him, it was Jamie.

2. His argument for going back

When Bree and Roger discuss whether to stay or go back, Roger brings up a very good point. Not only is it dangerous (and the Revolutionary War is coming) but it isn’t their time. They were never meant to live this.

It’s an interesting argument. Technically, Claire was never meant to live in this time but she’s made it her home. However, Roger has never felt like he should be in the past. He is a man of his own time. And at times, Bree is a woman of her own time. Bree understood Roger’s argument, and they came up with a story to tell everyone together.

1. Giving Young Ian his lands

There isn’t much Roger can do with his lands when he’s not even in the right time. So, he decides to gift them to Young Ian. It’s a thank you for everything, including that time they spent together when surveying the lands.

I love this moment. I wish there had been more time to see the bond between these two men grow. However, I’m happy to have it all in my head between the time in the woods to this moment, because they are clearly friends and not just acquaintances through family.
