The Watch made an appearance during Outlander Season 1, Episode 13. As much as we loved Douglas Henshall, the ratings saw a big dip.
Outlander Season 1, Episode 13 aired for the first time on this day in history. It was a chance to see The Watch in action, which meant seeing Shetland‘s Douglas Henshall take to our screens. Now it’s time to reflect with a look back at the live ratings.
According to TV Series Finale, the ratings took a hit, especially in the demo. The show lost 13% of its demo from the previous week, but that was still at a higher level than the series premiere; nothing for STARZ to ever worry about.
The audience saw a 5% dip from the previous week. It was still nothing to worry about, still sitting at more than one million viewers live. This likely translated to a much larger number of viewers across all platforms throughout the week.
However, the dip did come as the storyline saw a bit of a dip in terms of drama. The Watch wasn’t the biggest threat. Book readers, who would have been the largest fan base at the time, would have known the storylines that were coming. This was a bridge to those storylines at Wentworth Prison.
It wouldn’t be the last dip of the season. In fact, the final episodes would see bigger dips, something we’ll get to soon. These dips wouldn’t be surprising considering the subject, so fans would have chosen to delay their viewing to get ready.
“The Watch” isn’t one of my favorite episodes of the season. However, it does lead to one that I’ve gained more respect for the more I watch it…“The Search.” I’ll share why this episode has grown on me over the years when I look at the ratings on May 9.
Outlander Season 1 throwbacks continue throughout May.
