While Ulysses was certainly only protecting Jocasta, he is now in trouble after his actions on Outlander Season 5, Episode 10. What happens next?

Ulysses made a decision on Outlander Season 5, Episode 10 that will affect everything going forward. Killing Forbes, even to defend Jocasta, will mean a lot of trouble.

If Ulysses was white, he’d likely get away with killing Forbes. Everyone would accept that the actions were those of protection and not murder. Jocasta would easily be able to testify that Forbes had tried to kill her. And I’m sure Duncan Innes would have been at the doorway to see the commotion or would have been there afterward and would have accepted the story.

The problem for Ulysses is that he is a slave. During Outlander Season 4, Episode 2, we learned what would happen to slaves who struck their masters. It was a death sentence. Ulysses killing a prominent and valued member of society will have a dangerous knock-on effect that would lead to Ulysses being executed for his actions.

It doesn’t look like the show will go into the full extent of danger Ulysses is in. Not only is there not enough time but the show has struggled with portraying this part of history in a way that is needed. However, it’s clear that Ulysses knows that he is in danger. He heads to Fraser’s Ridge or somewhere close, where Claire and Jamie find him.

Claire wants to know what he’ll do next. What can he do next? He has lost his position in Jocasta’s house (not by her choice but due to the situation) and he will need to go on the run to protect his life.

We can’t look at the books for an idea as to how this storyline will play out. This doesn’t happen in the books, which makes this storyline all the more exciting and interesting. What will the writers play out on the screen?

There is a storyline in the sixth book, “A Breath of Snow and Ashes,” that sees Ulysses leave Jocasta. Will he leave in a similar way but for different reasons? It’s certainly plausible.

What do you think is next for Ulysses? What would you like to see the writers do with this storyline? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
