Jamie took Claire to his home on Outlander Season 1, Episode 12. Here’s a look at the ratings on the anniversary of the first airing.

On April 25, 2015, Jamie took Claire home for the very first time on Outlander Season 1, Episode 12. It was a chance to meet Jenny and Ian, while learning the truth about the events with Black Jack Randall. Here’s a look back at the ratings to continue our throwback posts this year.

According to TV Series Finale, the live ratings were mixed. As the demo dipped slightly from the previous episode, the total audience ticked up. In a way, this isn’t that surprising. We have to remember that the first season was likely mostly made up of book readers, and a lot of book readers wouldn’t have been in the 18-49 age range. (I don’t say that to be disrespectful, but the first book was published in the early 1990s.)

This episode was one that book readers had certainly looked forward to. After all, we saw Jamie and Jenny reunite, and it was just as salty a reunion as it was in the novel. Jenny was angry at Jamie’s assumptions, and quite frankly, I didn’t blame her.

We also got to see Claire and Ian meet. Growing up with Jenny and Jamie, Ian knew what the two siblings could be like. It was great to see him offer an olive branch and welcome to Claire, offering his words of advice when it came to the Fraser family. This certainly created a bond that I’ve enjoyed seeing continue. In fact, it was because of this episode that I adored Claire and Ian reuniting on Outlander Season 3/in “Voyager.”

Personally, this episode is one of my favorites. It gives Claire and Jamie a chance to have somewhat of a normal, semi-stressfree life. Of course, it can’t remain that way with The Watch showing up during the next episode. My only complaint with the episode was that it didn’t address whether Claire couldn’t go through the stones or chose not to. It was part of the TV show that my husband and I questioned (as show-first fans) and I had to turn to the book for answers.

If you haven’t rewatched the first season for a while, this is a great episode to jump into.
