There are talks about an Outlander spin-off, and of course, Lord John Grey is the favorite. However, I’d love to see a Fergus and Marsali spin-off.
If there’s one thing I know I want, it’s an Outlander spin-off. While Lord John Grey would be a great pick for the focus, I’d also love to see a Marsali and Fergus spin-off.
There hasn’t been enough Fergus Fraser on Outlander Season 5. And there certainly wasn’t enough of him or Marsali in the fourth season. I feel like we got just enough Fergus in Season 3 but I could have done with more.
The problem with the main series is that the cast is growing. Roger and Brianna have become main characters and Young Ian has returned earlier than in the novels. That means there’s less time for Fergus and Marsali. While Marsali has had a lot of development as Claire’s assistant, Fergus seems to have been forgotten about.
When Fergus is in a scene, he’s brilliant. During Outlander Season 5, Episode 9, we got to see him as the kind, thoughtful, and supportive son that he is. Young Ian warned Fergus of Jamie’s fear of losing a leg, but Fergus didn’t feel it would affect him too much. He’s learned to live with one hand but he can understand the fear of losing a limb.
Then there was the moment in the woods when Marsali went into labor. Fergus was scared but he knew that his wife needed him. He and Marsali make an excellent partnership, and it’s no wonder the two fell for each other in the first place.
There is so much room for character development for the two of them individually. Then there is the story development for them together. Their family will continue to grow, and we have plenty of material for them in the books.
It’s going to be hard to fit everything in from the books. Instead of trying to make it work in the main storyline, couldn’t we see the two of them get their own Outlander spin-off? It would give their storyline time to breathe. The characters deserve it.
Which Outlander spin-offs would you like to see? What do you think of Marsali and Fergus’s storyline? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
