3 best Claire moments from Outlander Season 5, Episode 9

Claire nearly had to make a choice between a life and a leg on Outlander Season 5, Episode 9. Here are her top three moments from the episode.

When Jamie was bitten by a venomous snake, Claire nearly had to accept she would lose her husband in some sort of way. It’s time to look back at Outlander Season 5, Episode 9 to find Claire’s strongest moments.

This was certainly an emotional episode for all. Claire gave us the devastation of possibly losing a spouse. Whether it was life or leg, Jamie wouldn’t be the same after it all. And that was something Claire would have to live with. Fortunately, her daughter was there to save the day.

These are my three favorite Claire moments from the episode.

3. The fear of losing her husband

Jamie made it clear that he’d rather die than lose his leg. He wanted Claire to give him his word, and while she did, she admitted to Brianna that she wasn’t sure she could keep it. We got this moment on the steps where Claire realized that she either had to lose her husband or accept that he would be angry at her for the rest of his life.

Fortunately, it all worked out in the end. But at this moment, nobody knew that it would. Claire was at a loss for what to do. She couldn’t make decisions, and she made it clear just why doctors can’t operate on their family members.

2. The unconventional way of saving Jamie

When Jamie was on the brink of death, Claire took a step to bring him back. It was an unconventional step and one that was most definitely from the book.

We got to see Claire’s quick thinking. There was a chance to see her do anything to keep her husband. She knew she needed to get his body temperature and heart rate back up, so she did whatever it was that was necessary.

1. Pride in Brianna’s work

At the very end, Brianna comes in to save the day (and Jamie’s leg). Claire is just about to amputate (with Jamie’s blessing) when Brianna shows her a syringe she’s made.

While Claire is certainly happy that she has a syringe to inject penicillin to save Jamie’s life and leg, she’s also proud at her daughter’s skill. During the episode, Brianna said that she couldn’t use her calling in this time. It turned out not to be the case. In fact, it was Brianna’s mind that was needed at the very end. And Claire was extremely proud to have a daughter able to think like that.
