It was no secret that Jamie would be bitten by a snake on Outlander Season 5, Episode 9. What we need to know is whether he survived.
The Outlander Season 5, Episode 9 promo and synopsis made one thing clear. Jamie would be bitten by a snake. It was the episode many book fans were waiting for. For those who hadn’t read the books, there was a fear that Jamie wouldn’t survive. Would he make it through the episode?
Well, did you really think that Jamie would be killed off? This is one of the lead characters. Outlander is Claire’s story about Jamie. For Jamie to die, it would mean that the story is over. So, there was absolutely no way that Jamie wouldn’t survive.
However, it was touch and go. There were a lot of questions about amputating Jamie’s leg. While his body had fought against the venom, the area around the bite had become infected.
Naturally, Jamie didn’t want to lose his leg at first. It was a conversation with Young Ian that led to Jamie realizing that losing his leg wouldn’t make him less of a man. Losing a limb didn’t make Ian Murray or Fergus Fraser less of a man. Jamie just needed a reminder of that and a reminder of how strong Ian and Fergus are because of everything that’s happened to them.
Just as it looked like Jamie would lose a limb, Brianna saved the day. She’d found a way to make a syringe after Claire’s only syringe was destroyed at the Battle of Alamance. And so, we get Engineer Brianna saving Jamie’s leg and life. It’s a perfect way to finally give her something important to do—something other than being a mother to Jemmy.
So, yes, Jamie did survive the snake bite. It took everyone to help him fight for his life. And he did manage to keep his leg in the end.
