2. Graham McTavish’s appearance
Okay, there’s no doubt that there was a collective scream when Graham McTavish showed up. This was one of the greatest surprises of Outlander Season 5 so far. I actually don’t care that Jamie as a Redcoat was shown in the trailer when there was such a major reveal in the episode.
Who else took a second glance at Buck MacKenzie? You knew the voice but you had to take a close look under all that hair to make sure it was who you thought it was.
It was a brilliant addition and one that made a lot of sense. After all, Tobias Menzies had played two characters related to each other.
Now I’d love to see Jamie or Claire see Buck. What would their reaction be at the likeness to Dougal?
1. Everything surrounding Murtagh’s death
Murtagh’s death is certainly not a “best” moment, but it brought so many excellent scenes. I’ve had to join them all together for the top moment on Outlander Season 5, Episode 7.
We had the moment where Murtagh sacrificed himself to save Jamie—although not an intentional sacrifice. I don’t think even Murtagh knew that one of Jamie’s men was there. Then there was the moment of death, where Murtagh said it doesn’t hurt to die.
However, Sam Heughan stole the moment. It was Jamie who made me blubber like a baby as she begged Claire to do something to save him and then told Murtagh that he took the release from the oath back. If you thought the loss of Angus at Prestonpans or the loss of Faith was hard, Murtagh’s death is one of the most heartbreaking on the show.
