Is that the last we’ll see of Fanny Beardsley on Outlander?
Outlander Season 5, Episode 3 introduced Fanny just to see her disappear in the night. Is that the last we’ll see of her in Season 5?
We both met and said goodbye to Fanny Beardsley in Outlander Season 5, Episode 3. Will that be the last we’ll see of the character?
With just 12 episodes to the season, the writers have to be picky about the storylines told from “The Fiery Cross.” It often means some of the side storylines are skipped over, but the Beardsley storyline was chosen. However, to some, it would seem like a standalone storyline that could have been avoided.
There were a few reasons the storyline was necessary for the overall story. The main one is that it led to Jamie and Claire getting the indentured paperwork for the twins. Now they can “own” them. In other words, they can rip up the paperwork.
The storyline that bled into Episode 4 was Fanny’s daughter. Claire and Jamie took the baby to Brownsville after Fanny left them in the middle of the night. While it looks like the baby will be happy with the Brown family, we still don’t know what happened to Fanny Beardsley. Will her storyline come up again or was she just a means to an end for the baby and for the indentured paperwork?
Those who have read the books know that the character comes up again. Roger learns what happened to her and gives her the chance to learn about her daughter. However, that doesn’t mean the series will follow that storyline.
It’s worth noting that the show doesn’t really need to bring up Fanny again. While she was a big point of Episode 3, it was more about getting the paperwork, getting the baby, and the knock-on effect the situation would have on Claire and Jamie. Out of all the future book storylines that could be skipped over, bringing Fanny back is one of them.
It is hard to say which way the writers will go on this, though.
