It’s a double Outlander birthday today!

Mar. 7 is a special day in the Outlander fandom. Not only is it the day one cast member was born, but the day two. Happy birthday, Tobias and Sophie!

We get to celebrate not just one but two Outlander birthdays today. Mar. 7 is a day for Tobias Menzies and Sophie Skelton to celebrate.

Usually, I use these posts to look at specific character moments. It’s harder when it comes to two birthdays in one. I could do separate posts, but since it’s Tobias and Sophie, why not look at the best Brianna and Frank moments on the series?

We’ve not had many over the years. In fact, there are just a few that stand out in Season 4 thanks to an episode that involved some flashbacks for Brianna. I adored “Down the Rabbit Hole” for all the flashbacks, getting us to see Frank in a different light; as a father and not as a husband.

There’s one moment that stands out the most, which speaks volumes to their relationship. It’s the moment Brianna is getting ready to go on the boat to the Colonies while in the 18th century.

Throughout “Down the Rabbit Hole,” she feels all this guilt for heading to the past, which feels like a betrayal to Frank. After all, he did everything he could to keep Bree safe in the 20th century, and yet he got her ready for life in the 18th century. While she wouldn’t have fully realized things then, she knew deep down that Frank knew more than he would let on.

After meeting Laoghaire and then Ian, Brianna realizes that she needs to head to the Colonies. She might never make it back to Scotland and may never even get back to the 20th century, so she needs the support of one person. She needs the support of Frank.

Whether it’s just a figment of her imagination or he’s a ghost, Brianna sees Frank at the docks. With a nod and a smile, he offers her the support she needs; the encouragement to do what needs to be done.

It’s not often a TV show will be able to bring a character back for just one episode like this. Fortunately, Tobias Menzies had time in his schedule to reprise the role on Outlander and we got a chance to see some excellent Brianna and Frank moments.
