During the Outlander Season 5 premiere, Jocasta opted to stay in a tent on Fraser’s Ridge. Fans are curious why she’d do that when there’s a house?
There’s always something that fans question about Outlander episodes. The Season 5 premiere was no different. One of the questions I’ve seen a lot is why Jocasta would stay in a tent when the Big House was so close. Wouldn’t she have been given a room to stay in?
Well, while in an ideal world she would have a room, that simply wasn’t possible for the Frasers. One thing Claire made clear was that the house wasn’t finished. Even Jamie pointed out that it wasn’t for people just yet. There wasn’t a room available for Jocasta to stay in.
Considering her eyesight problems, it wouldn’t have been safe for Jocasta to be in the house. This would have been a conversation the family would have already had, and it was likely supposed to be inferred to us through the various mentions of the state of the house.
On top of that, Jocasta may have wanted to stay in her own tent. It would have been much easier for her to sneak out to the cabin to spend a night with Murtagh. Claire and Jamie would know about their relationship and even Brianna and Roger, but outside of Ulysses, that would be it. There’s no way Jocasta would have wanted anyone to know and if word got out she was meeting with a wanted man, she, Jamie, and many others would be arrested and tried for treason.
Oh no! I made much more sense for Jocasta to stay in her own tent. Plus, she likely preferred to have the privacy and the independence with just Ulysses to just be there for her.
