Did you notice Outlander reused Jamie’s jacket from France?
The Outlander Season 5 premiere brought us a beautiful wedding. One thing you may have overlooked was Roger wearing Jamie’s jacket from France.
There’s no doubt that the Frasers know how to throw a lavish wedding for their daughter. The Outlander Season 5 premiere was full of joyful moments in the beginning, and there was plenty of focus on Brianna’s dress. With all that focus, you may have overlooked the reuse of one of Jamie’s jackets.
Roger was wearing a jacket that looked extremely familiar to Jamie’s blue jacket from France. Whether or not it’s the exact one used in the costume department isn’t clear, but we can believe that it would have been a hand-me-down from Jamie for his son-in-law.
It makes perfect sense, and it isn’t the first time hand-me-downs have been used. Throughout Outlander Seasons 3 and 4, we saw various characters wear items of clothing that Claire and Jamie had worn in the past. Marsali and Fergus wore some of Claire and Jamie’s clothes for Lord John Grey’s ball in Jamaica, while Brianna wore a lot of Claire’s Scottish wardrobe after finally getting to Lallybroch.
Repurposing items would have been done in the time. Passing the jacket to Roger to make sure he had something smart to wear for the wedding would have been a necessary part of the time period. The Frasers wouldn’t have had a world of money, especially not when paying for the wedding, building their home, and paying for that beautiful dress of Brianna’s. Roger also wouldn’t have had money considering he wasn’t even from the time period.
If you worried about losing Terry Dresbach from doing the costumes, it doesn’t look like Trisha Biggar is going to reinvent the wheel entirely. She’s continuing the reuse of items because that sticks to the time period, whether it sticks to the books or not. I actually can’t remember if there were details into Roger’s clothing for his wedding.
