Outlander Season 5: Claire will do what must be done

The last of the individual promotions for Outlander Season 5 is here. Claire Fraser must do what must be done in the 40-second video.

When you have knowledge of the future, you have a responsibility in the past. That’s the responsibility Claire Fraser feels in Outlander Season 5.

We come to an end of the individual promotions for the fifth season. It’s all about Claire, as we look back at clips from previous seasons and end with moments from the upcoming fifth season. It all focuses on Claire’s skills as a doctor.

One thing that has been heavily promoted is Claire working in her surgery. Now that her family is in the past, she wants to make the time as safe as possible. That doesn’t just mean stitching up their wounds but creating medicine that only the 20th century has right now. She needs to create penicillin to help fight against infections.

But that’s not all. Claire wants to understand why people are dying. She wants to make the 18th century a safer place for all, and that means using the dead; studying them to help understand what killed them and what could kill others in the future.

One thing the promo for the fifth season shows is that Claire trusts Marsali. Claire wants her daughter-in-law (I fully view Fergus as her son because Jamie gave Fergus his name) to become her apprentice. It’s a change to the books that I can’t wait to see, bringing Marsali more into the story and giving her chance to grow and develop. It’s also a chance to see Marsali and Claire’s relationship grow further.

This is a dangerous time to be practicing 20th-century medicine. Doing an autopsy would have been viewed as desecrating the dead; it would have been viewed as witchcraft. Claire is taking a big risk asking Marsali to help, showing her trust in her daughter-in-law.

As this marks the end of the individual promo, it’s going to be interesting to see what STARZ offers next week. We have a week left until the fifth season premieres.
